An hour of drudgery - well OK then, highly responsible and orderly batting - has ended with the dismissal of Peter Handscomb, well caught at slip as he pushed forward to a little drifter from the young offspinner Dom Bess.
There can't be many Yorkshire partnerships where batsmen have sat so deep in the crease as Handscomb and Ballance.
Handscomb might have been run out on 62 by a direct hit from Craig Overton, but with no TV replays (other than the one we watched in the media box, going "ooo, aah, that was close"), he got the benefit of the doubt. It was an understandable decision but it was probably fortunate that it did not cost Somerset too many runs,
