If it's 50k average he can do the whole team and a 12th man in two weeks!

someone on the one day commentary suggesting Jason Roy can be a test match number 3.... surely not?

UPDATE: Match delayed by rain, Kent 238/3 (74 ov, lead by 43 - 2nd inns) v Derbyshire

Think commentators sometimes get a bit over-excited about the possibility of aggression Andrei. See also: the continued fawning over Buttler, J.
by StaggerBreaths6/29/2016 2:57:55 PM
Oh right, it was Joe Average from Somewhereshire. But this also applies to the professional commentators. Does Roy have an ISM contract is the question?

RESULT: Match drawn Kent 238/3 (74 ov, lead by 43 - 2nd inns) v Derbyshire

They always get excited about guys doing well in an England Shirt, J Roy is a talented lad so wouldn't rule him out. probably needs to bat in the top 4 at Surrey although that didn't stop them sticking Ballance at three did it.
by nickcricket6/29/2016 3:04:54 PM
Hasn't he failed spectacularly at 6 this season?
by Andrei Rhodes6/29/2016 3:06:16 PM
Personally I am split on the one hand if players like Roy and Buttler decide Tests are not for them then we lose the sort of players who put bums on seats but on the other with the amount of Cricket England are playing its hard for anyone to play all formats and once they start playing one format to play enough of the others to push for selection
by nickcricket6/29/2016 3:07:09 PM
Andrei Rhodes - Yes, he has said he was struggling with an injury so that could have affected him. I wouldn't pick him because I think there are guys who have done more to deserve it and he still needs to nail down his ODI play
by nickcricket6/29/2016 3:08:44 PM
Look at Bairstow, he has barely played any White ball matches this year. Reckon he has played as many matches in this series as he had for Yorkshire. Only batted once in this series!

"Hales is already confirmed to play in the Championship match that starts at Trent Bridge on Sunday" So he is being rested from an England T20 to play a 4 day game? what about Jos!
by nickcricket6/29/2016 3:11:32 PM
Jason Roy's style is a bit irrelevant - is his average of 36 high enough, that should more be the question
by Steven Box6/29/2016 3:11:40 PM
I'd say his style was relevant. Especially if Hales is opening, I don't like the idea of Roy getting 36 at a run a ball and us being 2 down before midday...
by Andrei Rhodes6/29/2016 3:19:42 PM
If Roy was picked he would have to bat like he does for Surrey, like Hales he would have to find his feet. Lots of people expected Hales to be like Warner but he has generally gone slowly because he is learning his way. If he keeping on developing he could start scoring more freely like Tresco did his SR was far higher in the second half of his Test Career
by nickcricket6/29/2016 3:25:34 PM
long term i'd like Sam Haines at 3/4. can bat like Trott (some would say Trott mark two), but can also give it a good biff as he has done in a few t20 games. Granted, he is having a shocking season, but i like the cut of his jib
by dave6/29/2016 3:28:42 PM
Long term it might well be Lees/Abell/Hain, if mini-Trott finds form.
by StaggerBreaths6/29/2016 3:29:45 PM
Sorry - scrap Lees, make it Hameed.
by StaggerBreaths6/29/2016 3:30:02 PM
SB, finished your hours work for the day... i'd take Hameed, Abell, Haines and then the chap from Durham - Burnham - as a future young top four. Of Course Root will be there still as well
by dave6/29/2016 3:31:10 PM
Vince is only the same age as Root!

Tell you who has plummeted under the radar a bit: Dan Lawrence. Bad debut season?
