Jon Culley at Notts v Warwickshire 12-2 (13)
After the Leeds Half-Marathon, the Nottingham 10k! Possibly not quite the nightmare that David Hopps encountered trying to reach Headingley last Sunday but it was enough to delay my arrival at Trent Bridge, where I was watching spectators in the upper deck of the Radcliffe Road stand for 20 minutes as I edged along the A60, with traffic being funnelled into a diversion route, with Trent Bridge itself closed to traffic. Surely there was another Sunday they could have chosen, when Notts were away. Last week, maybe.
Anyway, inside Trent Bridge, Warwickshire may wish they had decided to bowl first rather than chance the toss. Chris Woakes, who is captaining at the start of a game for the first time in place of the injured Ian Bell, whose hamstring is not quite right, chose to bat and has seen openers Varun Chopra and Ian Westwood both dismissed for low scores. Laurie Evans replaces Bell and Chris Wright is preferred to Ian Rankin in the other change from the Warwickshire side that drew with Somerset last week.
Notts have Jackson Bird and Luke Fletcher in for Stuart Broad and Jake Ball, who bowled in the nets here this morning before preparing to join England. Bird and Fletcher have taken a wicket each, the Bulwell bomber celebrating his recall from his loan at Derby with the wicket of Westwood, who looks dreadfully out of form at the moment. Fletcher is swinging the ball from the Radcliffe Road end, Bird getting good bounce from the other. It looks a good wicket to bowl on, despite the experiences of Surrey and Yorkshire in the last two games here, and I'm guessing Notts would have liked to bowl anyway. Warwicks have their first boundary - in the 13th over.
The player second from right was nicknamed "Pookie" - any offers?
