Hello again, welcome back to the ritziest county blog in town - glad to see you dressed appropriately (yes, we know that's a dressing gown). Wind and rain gusted the circuit yesterday but most games are coming along nicely and we may even get a result at Wantage Road, if Northants' seamers continue their bang-tidy start to the seasons.
Yesterday, we were treated to notable performances from a handful of players who could go on to feature regularly England. Whether it was Chris Woakes and Scott Borthwick (not to mention Chris Wright and Keith Barker) impressing at Edgbaston
, David Willey (son of Peter) scoring runs and taking wickets in Northampton
, or the sight of Sam Robson notching another fifty for Middlesex
and Rory Burns upstaging
his Surrey captain, there was some water-cooler stuff going on around the counties.
By which thread I've arrived at the task for the morning: name your Young England XI
- that is, a team of up-and-coming tyros bursting to succeed every member of the full England side, from Alastair Cook through to Steven Finn. Cook and Finn aren't going anywhere for a decade, of course, so just imagine they are being picked to play against the current lot. Capiche?
