Paul Edwards at Durham 162 v Nottinghamshire
Most of the crowd here are desperate for something to cheer and it has been provided by Stuart Poynter's half-century. As I scribble Poynter has put on 46 for the last wicket with Chris Rushworth, who has also played a good hand. Poynter, a chunkily-constructed Hammersmith-born Irish international, has whacked fours through the covers but his finest effrontery was an uppercut off James Pattinson, a stroke which prompted Riki Wessels moving to long stop (a first for Chris Read in his last campaign?)
Anyway the pair added 52 before Poynter lost his off pole to Fletcher having made 65. The importance of these runs may not be utterly clear until say, Sunday but they look pretty important already.
