Paul Edwards at Lancashire 50-6 v Somerset
There is plenty of competition for seam bowling places at Taunton these days and one can see why. Three wickets for Craig Overton, albeit that Luke Procter and Rob Jones were complicit in their departures, and another for Tim Groenewald has more or less wrecked Lancashire's first innings in the opening 90 minutes. However, the home side's demolition has hardly been more severe than it was at The Oval where Liam Livingstone's side were 67 for 5 before recovering to make a remarkable 470.
On that occasion, though, Chanderpaul batted for eight hours and the Guyanan has been prevented from playing in this game by a hamstring injury, a complaint which has also ruled out Somerset's Jamie Overton. Matt Maynard is waiting for a scan to discover the severity of the latter injury. Meanwhile, Livingstone has been joined by Jordan Clark, who made his maiden century at the Oval. Clark has faced 20 balls, been hit in the box by one of them and has yet to get off the mark.
Jon Culley at Nottinghamshire 93-5 v Sussex
Sussex should offer a prayer of thanks that Steve Magoffin just keeps on delivering. With Ollie Robinson and Vernon Philander missing through injury and Chris Jordan away at the IPL their resources look pretty thin but while the 37-year-old Queenslander is around you always have a chance. He’s bowled beautifully this morning, having just added Michael Lumb to the earlier scalps of Greg Smith and Samit Patel and Notts would be in still more trouble had Alex Hales not profited against the inexperience of Adam Barton and Stuart Whittingham while Magoffin and Jofra Archer were taking a breather. Archer looking good, too, dismissing Hales and Jake Libby in the space of four balls.
