Tim Wigmore at Middlesex 236-0 v Essex
And now Nick Gubbins has his century, brought up with a scampered single to mid-on. All very Brisbane 2002 for Essex.
Tavare dismissed failing to duck a short ball
Jon Culley at Nottinghamshire 314-8 v Sussex
Riki Wessels had such a poor time in red-ball cricket in 2016 he was ultimately dropped from Nottinghamshire’s failing team in the Championship, sitting out the last four games. So his insistence pre-season that Notts needed batsmen of his experience if they were to return to Division One at the first attempt looked the kind of bold statement liable to backfire if form continued to elude him. He’s backed it up handsomely today, though, completing his first Championship hundred since last May and engineering the successful reconstruction of a Notts innings that was teetering at 88-5 earlier. He has four sixes and 14 fours thus far and Sussex are suffering for the lack of experience in their attack. Steve Magoffin, who took six in each innings on his last visit to Trent Bridge, has weighed in with another five but Jofra Archer, Stuart Whittingham and Adam Barton, with 23 first-class matches between them, have conceded 235 runs between them in 35 overs, although Whittingham at least has the wicket of Stuart Broad, out just now for 57, ending a stand of 132 with Wessels.
George Dobell at Warwickshire (223-3) v Surrey
Footitt strikes: Ian Bell has been drawn into poking at one angled across him. He could have left it. Instead he’s prodded and edged to slip. Javid has played and missed at his first two balls. Nervous moments for him.
