George Dobell at Warwickshire v Surrey
Hello from glorious Edgbaston. Though it’s not all that glorious right now and the toss was uncontested. The pitch is so far to the left as you look out from the pavilion they’re calling it Corbyn.
Warwickshire have made two changes to their side which, as Gerry Shed from Deep Extra Cover points out, means they have gone from 8 players over 30 in the last round to 9 in this. Ian Westwood – the last capped batsman to come through the system here – returns from a foot injury and replaces the slightly unfortunate Alex Mellor, a makeshift opener who was on the receiving end of a few fine deliveries in April – while Ateeq Javid comes in for Sam Hain. Hain was very much the poster boy for the future here at Edgbaston, so this blip in his progress is disappointing. Both Westwood and Porterfield, who keeps his place, are out of contract at the end of the year.
Surrey have reverted to the team that won the first game of the season against Warwickshire. So Jade Dernbach is back for Zafar Ansari and there is still no room for Stuart Meaker.
