Jon Culley at Notts 213-8 v Derbyshire
Games at Trent Bridge have a tendency to unfold quite quickly but this one has advanced in an unexpected way. Derbyshire, without a win in the Championship since 2015, have given Notts their most difficult day this season so far after electing to bowl first. After losing Patel and Mullaney in the space of 12 deliveries after that post-lunch run splurge they have not really recovered. Derbyshire’s bowling has been awful at times and much better at others. The debutant McKerr went for 25 in three overs in his third spell but came back for a fourth to dismiss Chris Read with his second ball and his last seven overs have conceded only 12. Tom Taylor, likewise, took a battering after lunch, leaking 28 runs in three overs as Mullaney went after him but returned to have Riki Wessels caught behind with the first ball of his current spell and has since yorked Brett Hutton.
