George Dobell at Somerset v Warwickshire (93-3).
We’re off for rain again at Taunton. Pretty hard rain. The ECB tell me their lightening guidelines actually state that, if the gap between lightening and thunder is less than 40 seconds, nobody should be on the playing area. The recommendation is also that play should be safe to resume after a minimum of 30 minutes, though the umpires have the flexibility to bring that forward if it is clear that the storm has passed. They call this the 40-30 guidelines. A bit of research suggests, though, that half of those struck by lightening each year in the UK (and there are two fatalities on average) are inside a building. In short, we’re all doomed. Ian Bell is out. He fenced at one he could have left from Craig Overton; reward for a fine spell of bowling.
It seems we're going to re-start at 2.15pm despite another clap of thunder in the last few minutes. We'll have lost 9 overs.
