Warwickshire 181-5 v Middlesex
Middlesex's depleted seam-attack bowled well as a unit to restrict Warwickshire to 181 for 5 at tea the opening day of their Spescavers County Championship match at Edgbaston.
Jonathan Trott, captaining Warwickshire after Ian Bell was ruled out by an elbow injury, made 49 (103 balls, six fours) but, against at attack missing Steve Finn (sore back) and Toby Roland-Jones (England duty), the top-order frailty which has affected the Bears all season surfaced again.
Warwickshire resumed after lunch on 89 for three having already lost William Porterfield (three), Andy Umeed (14) and Sam Hain with seamers James Harris, Tim Murtagh and Ryan Higgins each picking up a wicket.
Trott and home Matt Lamb added 33 before the former misjudged an attempted pull and gave a simple return catch to Tom Helm.
Higgins soon trapped Tim Ambrose lbw but Lamb, making his home championship debut, concentrated hard to reach tea unbeaten on 39 (101 balls, four fours).
