Tim Wigmore at Hamphire 184-2 v Surrey
A year ago, James Vince was playing seven consecutive Tests for England. They didn’t deliver a great deal to cheer, but the attractiveness of his offside play was never in doubt. He’s shown it off at The Oval after lunch, including taking Sam Curran for three boundaries in one over, and some dreamy punches through the offside. It took Vince only 71 balls to make a sprightly 50; Jimmy Adams was altogether more laborious in taking 138 balls over his half-century. Together the two are moving Hampshire into a fine position. Surrey have been ever-willing but look a little bereft of inspiration.
