Kent 230-8 v Worcs
Adam Rouse and Matt Coles led a Kent recovery after Worcestershire had made substantial inroads into their first innings in the Specsavers County Championship promotion battle at New Road.
Wicket-keeper Rouse and paceman Coles joined forces after Worcestershire skipper Joe Leach and Josh Tongue had been largely responsible for reducing them to 139-7 after Sam Northeast had elected to bat.
But then Rouse and Coles opted for an aggressive riposte in adding 79 in just 16 overs for the eighth wicket.
It needed Tongue to return to the attack and break the stand just before tea when Rouse (34) was caught at second slip by Daryl Mitchell.
Up until that partnership, the Worcestershire bowlers had been well on top.
Leach removed openers Daniel Bell-Drummond (1) and Sean Dickson (7) and then Ed Barnard removed Joe Denly (12).
Four wickets went down in 13 overs after lunch, two of them to Tongue including Northeast for 42, while John Hastings dismissed the in form Darren Stevens (39).
But then came the Rouse-Coles rescue act to take Kent to an unlikely looking batting point and by tea Coles had moved onto 47 out of 230-8
