Three of the last five meetings between these sides have ended in a draw; one victory apiece in that time.
Essex are unbeaten in their last six home games against Middlesex however (W3 D3).
Essex are the only remaining unbeaten side in Division One (W4 D3) whilst Middlesex have only lost once in 10 on the road, that defeat coming in their most recent outing away from home however (W3 D6).
Simon Harmer took 14 match wickets last time out for Essex (v Warwickshire); the most by a bowler in the County Championship since the 2014 campaign (15, Chris Rushworth).

I was thinking of going down to Northants vs Leics later but i'm not sure if I dare. Leicesters coach comes over as being a bit scary, he's permanently angry and threatening, hardly the way to get the best out the players.
by Dave Knibb6/26/2017 12:28:47 PM
Wasn't part of that also because they left a whole bunch of grass on the pitch, to avoid degrading the ball too quickly? Anyway, always good for the ball to win the odd one. (Although it's well known that Aussies can't play swing anyway so...)
by StaggerBreaths6/26/2017 12:28:21 PM
Like Dex said, ball tended to be the winner, but it was a different ball, also need to take into account that if it's not that cloudy, the lights won't make that much of an impact until very late on in the day
by Joe Williams6/26/2017 12:26:28 PM
Peter Handscomb (who has played a couple of day/night Tests) said it can be very difficult to face under lights, but that the swing was consistent. I do seem to remember that the pink ball Tests held in Aus were quite low-scoring. But then again they don't use a Dukes so who knows...!
by dez dezzy6/26/2017 12:24:13 PM
Weather not looking all that great down south either..
Does anyone know what the current status of the pink ball is? Does it swing? How quickly does it go soft?
by StaggerBreaths6/26/2017 12:17:42 PM
Not wanting to be a pessimist, but if the forecast is to be trusted it looks like any of the games held north of the Midlands will only see 2 days worth of play for this round (today & Thurs).
@SDHoneymonster Be more worried about the Kent player having to face Ball and Pattinson
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:58:05 AM
I'm actually dead excited for this round of games, shenanigans with the Lions and all. Would only be better if they'd reversed the toss law for this round only - can you imagine Durham with the pink ball under lights? The teams would struggle to make 100 across all four innings. It would be magical.
by SDHoneymonster6/26/2017 10:55:29 AM
Was talking to a few Yorkshire fans on twitter after the squad announcement for this game, and you guys think the fans who come here are moaning. Jeez. Lees got some stick for a bloke who averaged 40 last term, two guys seem to be offended by this weight
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:52:03 AM
I asked him on a scale of 1-100 how poor has Yorkshire's batting been in the past few seasons, then asked him if he could recount how many times i'd been angry due to Yorkshire this season alone, followed by what do you think Lees and Leanings averages are..he put 107, 45425,2 and 6....all rather accurate
Cass, is the one at the bottom of my pic btw.
by Joe Williams6/26/2017 10:49:30 AM
And frankly l[[-=='j is just rude.
by StaggerBreaths6/26/2017 10:49:00 AM
45425 is the number of first class runs Gary Ballance scored per season playing for the Mid West Rhinos in Zimbabwe 2 means Joe Root is the second England captain to have played for his club side in Yorkshire 6 is the number of games of cricket Jonny Bairstow has played in 2017
by Will6/26/2017 10:48:22 AM
I thought it was really 107% which is the amount of Yorkshire's runs which have been scored by Ballance despite that not being possible
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:47:53 AM
Are they replacing the psychic octopus with Joe's son?
by StaggerBreaths6/26/2017 10:46:09 AM
I thought the 107 referred to Adam Lyth's test high score, and the rest of it would be a code to work out the Yorkshire lineup
by Will6/26/2017 10:45:42 AM
@JoeWilliams Thought those were Gary Ballance's stats
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:45:01 AM
And compare the crowd to the already sold out T20 Roses blast game which almost none of those stars will be available
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:43:34 AM
solid 1st post by my 9 month old son...talks more sense than me already
by Joe Williams6/26/2017 10:34:59 AM
It s shame it is all the same week but I suppose the ECB wanted to get the pink ball fixture at a time in didn't clash with a full England game so the linkes of Root, Bairstow, Stokes, Moeen, Wood, Anderson ect could be involved because it is primarly to prepare England for the Test against the WI and would be pointless without them. It will be interesting to see how many people are at Headingley today given the team Yorkshire will be able to put out but given how poor the attendance at RLODC game against Lancs was
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:34:51 AM
#[[ #107 45425 2. 6 l[[-=='j
by Joe Williams6/26/2017 10:34:03 AM
FWIW, my view on the Lions game, mid season, clashing with the first ever floodlit round - it's bollocks. They should have ensured there were no clashes at all to really encourage all the top players to be playing this round to make it a more attractive proposition to potential new supporters.
by Joe Williams6/26/2017 10:28:12 AM
Patto my skipper too, so i'd prob change your's Nick as I am rubbish at this lark.....Steven's golden summer is over now.....my other theory+=
by Joe Williams6/26/2017 10:22:39 AM
Would like to get Stevens in but he is too expensive these days
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:21:56 AM
I have got Pattinson, taking over the captaincy from Ballance. Gets 400 points a game that lad
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:19:06 AM
Byrom it is then, Pujara's done sweet FA....gives me better bowling options (my theory is bowlers will fare better with pink ball round)
by Joe Williams6/26/2017 10:17:39 AM
Did anyone see what Nassar said at the cap presentation yesterday?
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:16:08 AM
I have had Harry Brook since the start of the season, also at the base prices. Probably only play half the game as the replacement for Ballance and the forecast for day three is awful and not great for day 4
by nickcricket6/26/2017 10:13:29 AM
Little tip if anyone wants it, Eddie Byrom will be starting for Somerset and costs the base $15,000. Talented young thing and could be very good value as your back up batsman
by Will6/26/2017 10:09:54 AM
Hooray for the floodlit round! I will actually make changes to me fantasy team for the first time in about a month! I am therefore bang behind it as a principle
by Joe Williams6/26/2017 10:04:15 AM
@Will The hype train has already left the station, its too late. He will either be the next Shane Warne or the next Chris Schofield there is no middle ground. Pleased he seems to have come though having enjoyed the matches, not sure what England were doing picking a player in the 6th and 7th T20 game surely there is still plenty to be learned at domestic level
by nickcricket6/26/2017 9:51:14 AM
The sycophancy is sort of understandable given the condition of the English spin cupboard, but does anyone remember Adam Riley? #RaynerforEngland
Was being kind of sarcastic Nick, he obviously has the talent but hasn't yet shown that he has the temperament for Tests and there's no point in trying him out there if he hasn't had a chance to improve it.
by StaggerBreaths6/26/2017 9:50:02 AM
Sure is, not really been at his best this summer. Pleased he wants to fight for his Test place but given he has not had a break since the start of the India ODI series does he have the juice left the tank if he is selected?
by nickcricket6/26/2017 9:46:22 AM
Morning early birds. Excited by Mason Crane's potential, but finding all this sycophancy over a handful of respectable performances a little... premature? Let the kid average below 39 for Hampshire before we talk about throwing him into an away Ashes series (and inevitably knocking him down when he doesn't fulfil these unfair expectations)
by Will6/26/2017 9:45:48 AM
He's such a talent though! ¬_¬
by StaggerBreaths6/26/2017 9:43:21 AM
I will be around if people fancy have a discussion of the England squads Lions and full or anything else County Cricket related like how Jos Buttler is the 3rd best 4 day wicketkeeper bat in the Lancs squad but would guess it will be a ghost town here until near 2pm
by nickcricket6/26/2017 9:41:44 AM
Going to camp out here until the games start Nick?
by StaggerBreaths6/26/2017 9:36:41 AM
Picking a Fantasy team is a risky business, bit low on trades for the season sorry worried about picking people who might disappear to England. Got Ballance and Westley who are only playing half the match, Broad who is injured. To cap it off I still have Lees in the team. Mid table is the place for me
by nickcricket6/26/2017 9:15:38 AM
Morning all, only hour till the Cricket gets underway...Wait what?
