George Dobell at Warwickshire v Lancashire (12-0).
There’s a first-class debut here today for George Panayi. He’s another from Shrewsbury School and is a seam-bowling all-rounder who represented England U19. He’s still only 19. We can expect the announcement of a new signing from Warwickshire in the next couple of days, too. Another all-rounder who has found opportunities blocked elsewhere. Can’t say more, I’m afraid.

Paul Edwards at Essex v Middlesex 17-2
A quiet opening to the afternoon/evening experiment at Chelmsford. Nick Gubbins, a late call-up for James Franklin (back problem), was beaten all ends up by Mohammed Amir's fourth ball and then leg before to one which pitched on the stumps and held its own. Next over Nick Compton edged James Porter to James Foster. So it's been a case of three James's, two Nicks and one Mohammed.
Dawid Malan, Middlesex's stand-in skipper, is in now and is no doubt finding life an entertaining contrast to life with England's T20 team at Cardiff. The Essex spectators are enjoying it all hugely, of course, not least the old players - Fletcher, Lever, Hardie, Turner - who have foregathered in the pavilion for their reunion. As I write, Amir is making Malan look a little silly by hooping the ball away from him rather rapidly.
