Jon Culley at Notts v Kent 35-3
The pink Duke ball may look cheap and nasty (Northants coach David Ripley’s phrase) but as far as Kent are concerned the operative word has been nasty so far. Not in an intimidating sense – there’s been no need for that. James Pattinson and Jake Ball have bowled fast and full and the swing has done the rest. No luck for Ball but the extraordinary Pattinson has already added three more to his impressive haul for Notts, which now stands at 31 wickets in this his fifth match in the Championship. All three fell in the space of six deliveries with the score on six as Sean Dickson and Joe Denly fell leg before in the first three balls of the Aussie’s second over and Sam Northeast nicked an unplayable ball to Steven Mullaney at second slip to the second ball of his third. They’ve made a partial recovery since, with Sam Billings quick to take advantage of anything overpitched or drifting to leg. Billings is due to leave to join the Lions after two days. At this rate, the rest of the lads will be free to go along and watch.
