Sussex 257-2 v Durham 287
An unbroken double century stand for the third wicket between Luke Wells and Stiaan van Zyl has put Sussex firmly in control against Durham at Hove. At tea Sussex are 257 for two in reply to Durham’s 287, with Wells on 125 and van Zyl 101.
Durham , without their usual depth of bowling, felt the absence of Graham Onions, who did not take the field in the afternoon session. Paul Collingwood became their seventh bowler of the day when he came on at 222 for two.
But that does not detract from the efforts of Wells and van Zyl. Sussex’s top order had been short of runs this season, without Ed Joyce and the injured Wells and Matt Machan (wrist).
This is Wells’ first championship innings since September but he looks as though he has never been away. This is his 14thfirst-class century, and van Zyl’s 22nd.
