I can see why they would want to give him more FC opportunities but I would have thought maybe a loan to a second division county would have been better. I mean its not like there is a lot of quality spin there, Rob Keogh was the highest wicket taking spinner last term

@nickcricket I am. I'm really not sure why they picked Parry. This is only his 11th first class game...

Reckon Northants get get this match finished today then on to the curry house

Alex Thomas - Surprised at Parry getting the nod over Kerrigan?
by nickcricket4/8/2017 9:37:15 AM
Should be a good test of Essex's much vaunted Batting lineup
by nickcricket4/8/2017 9:36:26 AM
The Essex Lancs game is an interesting one. Lancs were actually fairly dominant apart from the hour after lunch when 118-2 became 160-6. That leaves the game pretty finely balanced, although the bowling of Anderson should swing it for Lancs (I hope).

Ah yes. Should be an interesting day.

There is Hales first CC innings in his new middle order Test push coming up in Div 2 as well
by nickcricket4/8/2017 9:27:15 AM
Regarding other games, I rather curious to see where Essex v Lancs goes. Quite evenly balanced I think at the moment. And I've got a faintly morbid curiosity regarding how many runs Surrey will rack up.
by Matt Warwick4/8/2017 9:25:34 AM
Yep, hard pitch to judge. That spell from Coad really could be match winning though, if things flatten out from here.
by Matt Warwick4/8/2017 9:20:10 AM
Matt - Difficult to assess the pitch isn't it, the top score after Ballance is 30 from Adam Lyth but you wouldn't say it was doing anything untoward so if Hampshire can get within 100 of Yorkshire which shouldn't be too much of an ask then it becomes hard to know how aggressive to be in that third innings and I don't think the pitch will get worse. Often at Headingley they get flatter on days 3 and 4
by nickcricket4/8/2017 9:17:49 AM
@Nick - the Dawson-McManus partnership is my one faint tendril of hope. A few cameos from Berg, Abbott and Wheal and a total of 200+ is feasible, which would at least keep us in the game.

Right, I'm off shopping, which unfortunately means departing from the blog (due to those technical issues), hopefully will be back by the time the cricket starts! 🏏
by StaggerBreaths4/8/2017 9:04:42 AM
Is there ever a Morning at Headingley that isn't glorious?
by nickcricket4/8/2017 9:03:26 AM
StaggerBreaths - If I were Burnham I would be annoyed about that! True, Honestly think the Somerset 2nd XI match was more competitive
by nickcricket4/8/2017 9:02:15 AM
Matt Warwick - Yorkshire didn't get that many so one decent Partnership from say Dawson and McManus and its game on again
by nickcricket4/8/2017 9:01:00 AM
I don't think some of these ones are even FC Nick, they're not even getting the stats. out of it!
by StaggerBreaths4/8/2017 9:00:51 AM
Morning All, I agree StaggerBreaths every team should be playing a CC match this weekend in an increasingly packed schedule I wonder on the value of the MCCU games. nice stats booster for the County Players I am sure
by nickcricket4/8/2017 8:59:05 AM
Wonder if Hampshire will remember how batting works today.
by Matt Warwick4/8/2017 8:58:16 AM
Mornin' all! Should be around a fair amount today to talk cricketing rubbish. Neither of the teams I truly care about are playing, which leads me to a question: we have a setup where we could have nine matches being played on the first day. Instead we have six. Why is this?
