Afridi has probably lost all his value as a batsman. His main asset is bowling now. Will be horrifying if he plays ahead of Crane. I don't mind 2 frontline leggies though.
by Static_a3575/20/2017 11:55:32 AM
Crane was the star with the white ball in the North South games, he is still young and we forget his hasn't played that many first team matches. Hampshire already have enough talent to leave Carberry out of the 50 over team

Vithushan Ehantharajah at Middlesex 20-0 v Surrey 313
Quality from Middlesex. They probably wasted the new ball yesterday morning, allowing Surrey's openers to make 55 for no loss. Today, though, the last five wickets were taken for 48 runs. James Franklin finished with a best for Middlesex of four for 40 and Tom Helm with three well-deserved wickets. No Sam Robson after his hamstring injury suffered during a One-Day Cup match at the Ageas Bowl, so Nick Compton opens with Nick Gubbins. The latter has played some nice shots to move to 17 but has been on the receiving end of testing overs from Tom and Sam Curran. Compo, batting on off-stump, is on 3. Belting mini-session so far.

Mind you, what with white ball spin and red ball spin being such very different disciplines, part of me wouldn't mind Crane being sidelined from the Blast.
by StaggerBreaths5/20/2017 11:53:37 AM
That would be a bad thing and will probably happen. Was thinking as a batsman...
by StaggerBreaths5/20/2017 11:53:05 AM
Just hope he doesn't play ahead of Crane
by nickcricket5/20/2017 11:51:25 AM
I'd have him batting in the CC if I could.
by StaggerBreaths5/20/2017 11:50:22 AM
To be fair, I think it's a good thing to have Afridi playing as much cricket as possible.
by StaggerBreaths5/20/2017 11:50:11 AM
Good to see Hampshire's war on domestic talent has taken another step forward with Afridi joining the T20 team
by nickcricket5/20/2017 11:48:58 AM
Thanks for checking. ☹️
by StaggerBreaths5/20/2017 11:48:33 AM
I will answer my own question, no he hasn't that is why Compton was playing WB cricket so guess he is still injured.
by nickcricket5/20/2017 11:46:17 AM
has Robbo played since he hobbled off in the TV White ball match?
by nickcricket5/20/2017 11:45:11 AM
@David Hopps, can you please star comment George Dobell's comment, so all can see at the end of the day when Somerset do bowl 80.1 overs that he has to follow through on that mighty bold claim.
returning o the IPL v County debate, perhaps as worrying is the trend is for overseas players, like Head, going on A tours rather than playing County. The County game, both internally and externally, is no longer the 'premier competition'. No Enland players, no fringe one day/T20 players, a lack of top draw full season overseas players, only brief appearances in T20 off the marque players. How do you convince the average 10 year old to give up football and convert to cricket when all the 'big players' are no where to be seen
by dave5/20/2017 11:33:12 AM
I suspect that if I'd had access to freeview telly cricket at that point it might have been Bell, 2013's summer being one of his golden series and given his aesthetically pleasing cricket, but nope.

UPDATE: Match delayed by rain (Play due to restart at 12:45pm), Leicestershire 27/0 (13.1 ov) v Kent
Tough one Joe, especially for a recent convert to the sport like myself. So I have no golden-tinged memories of players past. 2013 was when I got into the sport, and nobody has really grabbed me from that era. Current players I like/love: Ballance, Wood, Moeen.
by StaggerBreaths5/20/2017 11:26:13 AM
Stokes was a success at the IPL. Buttler played few knocks but carrying drinks in the end? He could have come back immediately to play for Lancs, but of course, not on his radar.
by Static_a3575/20/2017 11:25:01 AM
Wheater coming up short again, against his former county this time. Grumbles of Chelmsford patrons will surely continue
by Tom Harle5/20/2017 11:24:33 AM
Buttler, obviously, can play only as a batsman for England in Tests because Bairstow and Foakes are favoured keepers. There is no place for him although England have changed their 'brand' of cricket.

Surrey have slightly ruined the hard work of yesterday, should have got close to 400.
