Tim Wigmore at Surrey 295-8 v Lancashire
As Somerset proved last season, the modern county batsman has little experience of facing spin twins bowling relentlessly tight, rushing through each over in a couple of minutes, and leaving them no room to breathe. Stephen Parry and Simon Kerrigan, with a little help from Liam Livingstone, have showed as much at the Oval, bowling 20 overs in the over after lunch and giving Lancashire a good chance of enforcing the follow-on. Parry was particularly impressive to Zafar Ansari: he twice conceded byes after beating the gate, and then clipped Ansari’s leg stump, when he was unsure about whether to go forward or back. The second new ball immediately brought Ryan McLaren the wicket of Sam Curran, capped to short midwicket, but has since triggered a counter-attack, with Gareth Batty racing to 24. Surrey need another 26 to save the follow-on.
