@dezdezzy Yes, in fact Woakes was that seamer thinking about it. Another option for England is to have Moeen or Stokes at 5 but still used Moeen as the only spinner and used the extra slot for a seamer. Going to be a different world for Bairstow at 7, last summer he was walking in with Moeen and Woakes to come this year there could be a real tail
Have you seen the Dutch side playing against Zimbabwe today, its more like a rest of the world side. Including someone who played for Zimbabwe under 19's
by Lawrence Payne6/22/2017 10:12:54 AM
Last time Stokes was injured they played an extra seamer and promoted Bairstow to 6. I suppose it depends on what is making Stokes doubtful. England could decide that if he can play as a batsmen only then that is a better option than Ballance and do the same again

Foakes is continuing to make a good claim, to be fair.
by StaggerBreaths6/22/2017 10:08:01 AM
Would love to see a specialist spinner and keeper in the England squad, just for nostalgia if nothing else
by Lawrence Payne6/22/2017 10:07:27 AM
(As well as Ballance, natch.)
by StaggerBreaths6/22/2017 10:07:20 AM
Stokes and Woakes out stuffs things up good and proper. :/ Ballance in in that case, and hope that the seamers can deliver a few more overs... Maybe Keaton/Root to bowl a few...
by StaggerBreaths6/22/2017 10:07:14 AM
Just noticed that BBC are saying Stokes is doubtful for the 1st Test too, so that scuppers all of our plans... Could be a few fresh faces in the squad for the 1st Test if there is no Broad, Stokes or Woakes...
by dez dezzy6/22/2017 10:06:13 AM
No I picked Leach, I think England will continue with Moeen but has to make it at number 5 for me. Scored too many runs in 2016 to be dropped
by nickcricket6/22/2017 9:58:42 AM
Cook, Jennings, Ballance, Root, Bairstow, Stokes, Ali, TRJ, Broad, Wood, Anderson - TRJ & Wood picked over Ball mainly due to it being at Lords. Ball would replace Broad if he's injured.
by dez dezzy6/22/2017 9:58:02 AM
I'd be taking Footitt and Woakes to Oz on top of that as things stand.
I really want Ballance to get a chance, but I also want Root at 4. He'd be in the 13-man squad.
by StaggerBreaths6/22/2017 9:57:00 AM
(But seriously Cook, Jennings, Stoneman, Root, Ballance, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali, Broad, Wood, Anderson, with TRJ as 12th Man if broad is unfit)
by Matt_MYano6/22/2017 9:55:36 AM
I'd say our attack has fairly good reserves with Wood, Roland-Jones, Ball and even Footit not in my XI.
by jacobnewbury6/22/2017 9:55:01 AM
Stevens, Leach, Shantry. That's all we need
by Matt_MYano6/22/2017 9:54:28 AM
My XI for a Lords wicket depends whether the ecb are happy for Wood to play Tests again - i take it from the fact that he is only available for the 1st T20 that they are, but can anyone confirm?
by dez dezzy6/22/2017 9:50:53 AM
Not far off from mine: Cook, Jennings, Root, Bairstow, Ali, Stokes, Foakes, Broad, Wood, Leach, Anderson I do feel slightly bad for Ballance but just feel Foakes deserves his chance.
by jacobnewbury6/22/2017 9:49:13 AM
Yeah didn't get the slagging off of Roy yesterday. England's entire regeneration in limited overs cricket has been based on that sort of enterprise and swagger. So it didn't come off - as Nick says, he'd knocked the head off the chase in three overs, so it was job done. He's got three ODI centuries FFS, so it's fairly obvious he can construct an innings, but he had a different job to do last night.
by SDHoneymonster6/22/2017 9:45:09 AM
I will start the ball rolling - Cook, Jennings, Root, Ballance, Moeen, Stokes, Bairstow, Leach, TRJ, Broad, Anderson
by nickcricket6/22/2017 9:45:08 AM
Yep i reckon yesterday just proved what everyone feels about Roy - outstanding talent, just needs a bit more thinking to go with his skill. In a low scoring T20 though his 28 off 14 up front was basically enough to kill the game and at least his wicket gave Bairstow a chance to play a part. Sincerely hope Billings gets a proper chance with the bat in the remaining 2 games.
by dez dezzy6/22/2017 9:43:55 AM
Roy has been the lightest on runs and Bairstow keeps performing so they are looking for a way of getting him in the side, England play so much Cricket now that the next in line reserve will play a decent amount. Bairstow's problem is that when you are not in the full side it is very easy to slip down the pecking order when a Billings or a Duckett is pulling up trees in domestic comps that he can't play in because he is a Test player
by nickcricket6/22/2017 9:42:57 AM
Meanwhile, Bairstows innings yesterday must be giving the selectors food for though in LO cricket. I am of the view that there is room for BOTH Roy & Bairstow in the ODI & T20's - they should take Bairstows ability as opportunity to rest Root during limited overs cricket unless it's a world tournament or a high profile series against the likes of India/Australia.
by dez dezzy6/22/2017 9:30:37 AM
@dezdezzy Difficult one, for me the quickest route to the Test side for Foakes is Bairstow scoring runs and missing chances while the middle order continues to fail. Then there will be calls for a better keeper and they won't have to drop there highest run scorer from last year. I do think Foakes is better batting higher up because he builds an innings if he bats down the order then he is required to bat above the pace of his natural game although his WB cricket is improving so maybe he can provide that role at 7 that England like for their Keepers
by nickcricket6/22/2017 9:28:13 AM
Decent total? With Jovo, Leachy and the little Curran chomping at the bit the Lions already have about 200 runs above par.
by SDHoneymonster6/22/2017 9:14:06 AM
The Lions hopes of a decent total resting on Foakes by the looks of it. Interesting comments section for the match report from yesterday on the subject of Foakes & Hameed!

Mornin'! Glad this is up today, with only four matches on I wasn't sure. Matt, at least he knows what's expected of him.
