how surprised can you really be by a ten year anniversary

Also a really different challenge to open in Aus than India, Hameed is a very good player of spin and the new ball doesn't do a great deal in India so it suited him.
by nickcricket9/21/2017 9:22:35 AM
Mark Nicholas weighing up Hameed v Gubbins and plumping for Gubbins because Hameed has 'no form or fluency' is really really brilliant researching
by Will Colwell9/21/2017 9:21:02 AM
I say that, watch him ton up against Middx. today...
by StaggerBreaths9/21/2017 9:20:31 AM
No tougher for him than Hameed, I'd've thought. The latter has played Tests before, but at his age and on his run of form?
by StaggerBreaths9/21/2017 9:20:20 AM
Would love Burns to play for England & no doubt his turn will come... The Ashes would be a tough baptism of fire though, esp as he's not even featured for the Lions yet.
by dez dezzy9/21/2017 9:18:11 AM
@dezdezzy His contract has a clause in it to release him if he is selected which is says is his prefered winter plans, Strauss said they wouldn't pick him just to prevent him from becoming white ball only but if they don't he will go another what? 10 months without a red ball practise session
by nickcricket9/21/2017 9:16:51 AM
Yeah I put Northeast at three. Tough ask for debut though.
by NemoUKS9/21/2017 9:16:19 AM
Stoneman/Root/Northeast. Job done. As a Surrey fan, Dez, not tempted by Burns?
by StaggerBreaths9/21/2017 9:15:09 AM
I see Buttler has signed up for the BPL though, so he can't be too confident of an Ashes place
by dez dezzy9/21/2017 9:14:22 AM
No, I don't envy the people having to pick the real team. Did anyone read the interview with Strauss? With all the people on the ECB payroll does he not wonder why they can't afford full time selectors
by nickcricket9/21/2017 9:13:55 AM
On the Ashes selector i put Hameed at 2 with Stoneman at 3. Wasn't entirely happy with it though.
by dez dezzy9/21/2017 9:12:30 AM
my heart bleeds for all of you with fantasy issues. My team doesn't have a match so cry me a river!!!
by Joe Williams9/21/2017 9:11:54 AM
Yeah Vince averaging 36.50 this season which is about Malan's career average so maybe that is enough
by nickcricket9/21/2017 8:59:25 AM
Easy to scoff at Vince, but given that there are no obvious solutions @ 2, 3 and 5 it really is open season for any player to be mentioned as a potential option if they've scored some runs
by Joe Williams9/21/2017 8:58:38 AM
I have nearly 500 points of Luke Wood sat on the bench and a 3pt Jack Leach in the team :/
by NemoUKS9/21/2017 8:58:03 AM
The problem with him is as Tim Wigmore's report on the hundred he scored against Surrey is that for all the elegance he still doesn't seem to recognise how teams are trying to get him out and I am not sure a brain is something that can be grown at his age
by nickcricket9/21/2017 8:57:04 AM
I know his average is a bit lower, but i thought Vince looked more at home than Westley in Tests to be honest
by dez dezzy9/21/2017 8:54:53 AM
Vince has got a nice cover drive and consistent 20-42 could be better than England will get elsewhere
by nickcricket9/21/2017 8:53:41 AM
Paul Edwards previews a fascinating third and maybe final day at Wantage Road

UPDATE: Match start delayed (Start delayed due to rain), Gloucestershire 161/1 (47 ov, trail by 281 - 1st inns) v Glamorgan
by ESPNcricinfo Live9/21/2017 8:51:40 AM
Oh it's Mark Nicholas. That makes more sense.
by NemoUKS9/21/2017 8:51:28 AM
Oh ffs Chesterfield, I need some Northeast points
by NemoUKS9/21/2017 8:49:34 AM
Why is the Cricinfo Ashes squad preview touting Vince? Is this a genuine prospect?
by NemoUKS9/21/2017 8:49:19 AM
UPDATE: Match start delayed (No play before Lunch, wet outfield), Derbyshire v Kent at Chesterfield
by ESPNcricinfo Live9/21/2017 8:48:49 AM
Anyway I'd better try and get some work done before the action starts. Chat to you blokes/blokettes in a bit.
by StaggerBreaths9/21/2017 8:48:00 AM
Strauss seemed to almost deliberately miss a bunch of the points with those comments. The problem is not that selectors are explicitly promising other young players England chances at their counties, nor is being compensated for England caps going to do Durham any good when Coughlin, Jennings and Onions play out the remainder of their careers with zero England caps between them
by Will Colwell9/21/2017 8:47:38 AM
Selector nearby, looked like they were definitely going to the first division... he he he.
by StaggerBreaths9/21/2017 8:46:48 AM
Why else would you join Notts?
by dez dezzy9/21/2017 8:45:56 AM
Sorry, I forgot that people voluntarily opt for the pyjama formats.
by StaggerBreaths9/21/2017 8:44:52 AM
Depends what format you're talking. Extremely useful up and coming white ball all-rounder.
by dez dezzy9/21/2017 8:44:01 AM
I'm surprised that Coughlin thinks he's anywhere near selection anyway. Decent county all-rounder, not much more.

Loving the increasing tension between Botham and the establishment, can't help but have an utterly huge level of sympathy for Botham and Durham at this time, whilst nothing official will have been said y'all know full well that moving to the county of someone who is on the panel is getting you nearer England selection, tho Samit Patel may not feel like that of course!
