Easy... this is a cricket board, we're all friends here. What people think about the status of cricketers as role models shouldn't change that.

WOOP WOOP... Its the sound of the fun police
by Michael Pounder9/28/2017 3:13:09 PM
I'm hoping Vince gets a good bowl Jonathan. If I recall he bowls medium-paced bouncers. The Australians will be ready for fast-medium and their timing will be all out of whack.
by StaggerBreaths9/28/2017 3:12:42 PM
@Rob @Joe Fine then, get all your 'role models' to young kids and let them get in a few fights, a few good kickings and whatnot. Awesome idea. Being a national figure carries a certain amount of responsibility, but fine, if you think that's okay then lets just let them all get hammered and 'kick off'...
It's a question of common sense. A couple of beers and a laugh can be seen as positive, but surely all this could have been avoided.
by Haystack_Jnr9/28/2017 3:10:50 PM
Dez - Ball, Anderson and a couple of others who I haven't seen named went out, but weren't with Stokes and Hales when the fight happened. This England team doesn't enforce a curfew, they aren't suspending players for going out for a few drinks the night before a day off.

Darren Stevens in for Stokes, tailor made replacement, they won't be able to handle his medium pace
by Jonathan Lewis9/28/2017 3:10:27 PM
Think he might find all that time fielding in the heat a bit much at his age... but he'd still do a better job with the bat than Dawid Chuffing Malan.
by StaggerBreaths9/28/2017 3:10:19 PM
It's unprofessional in that they make their money out of being public figures. As Dave says they are role models and have to accept this a constraint.

I'd love it if they brought Colly back as a replacement
by Andrei Rhodes9/28/2017 3:09:30 PM
As for who replaces him, promote Woakes and Moe up the order I'd say, add another seamer. There are no other seamers good enough to replace him, natch, so you pick one who's halfway. If they can wield the bat a bit then all the better.
by StaggerBreaths9/28/2017 3:08:49 PM
@DaveKnibb but why? they aren't supposed to live like Monks, they are young guys earning good money and have the right to enjoy themselves as other young guys do. Yes getting into a fight massively unprofessional and being dealt with accordingly
by Joe Williams9/28/2017 3:07:52 PM
but what's unprofessional about getting drunk? i agree it's unprofessional to deck someone in the street, but why is getting smashed on a night off unprofessional? almost every single adult under the age of 50 does it occasionally.
by Rob Little9/28/2017 3:07:08 PM
Ok... haven't seen that bit

Think Hales was/might have been in the video kicking somebody Dez.

It does feel like this series has been going on for about 9 months now. Must be awfully monotonous for the players

@Rob If your a role model, is that okay then? Professional conduct and all that?
by Dave Knibb9/28/2017 3:04:36 PM
Anyway.. who's going to replace him IF he can't go to Aus?
by dez dezzy9/28/2017 3:04:25 PM
I'm not against sportsmen going out drinking, but perhaps would have been wise to have waited a week for the summer to be over before being out in the street at 2:30, at least then you've got the end of season excuse rather than doing it mid-series
by Joe Tompkins9/28/2017 3:04:08 PM
(If that is inappropriate I'm open to having it removed.)

i know no-one personally who's ever sparked someone out on a night out in younger days. perhaps i associated with a gentler troop back then, but playing a bit of nocturnal queensbury wasn't the "in thing" I must say.
by rodldavies9/28/2017 3:02:43 PM
And I must say, I'm not terribly bothered by the drinking. The fight, yes, but depends if there's a suitable self-defence defence to be made. (Have not watched video.)

serious question: why shouldn't professional sportsmen be allowed to go out and get drunk? i'm not defending the attack/violence/whatever btw, but why shouldn't these players be allowed to (very occasionally, I shall add - my impression is they are generally very well behaved) get smashed?
by Rob Little9/28/2017 3:02:21 PM
The trouble with the scuffle is after the main bit appears to be over. It doesn't look great when you see a huge, drunk man marching down and decking two people.

Then again, I have little to no muscle tone and no hand-eye co-ordination. If I tried to get into a brawl I'd miss, hit the lamp-post next to the target, and be knocked over by the return blow.
