The top 5 i'd like to see in Oz is Cook, Hameed, Root, Northeast and Hales. The top 5 I think we'll see though is Cook, Stoneman, Hameed, Root and Malan.
by Dave Knibb9/7/2017 4:31:35 PM
Even if Malan comes good and Westley doesn't they have the option of going Root at three with everyone then pushed up one
by nickcricket9/7/2017 4:31:21 PM
I'd be playing Woakes anyway.
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:31:09 PM
UPDATE: Match delayed by bad light (Play due to restart at 5:35pm), Sussex 362/8 (96 ov, lead by 108 - 2nd inns) v Northants
by ESPNcricinfo Live9/7/2017 4:30:32 PM
No, I would rather play Woakes and push everyone up one. Woakes scored what 90 runs in the last match
by nickcricket9/7/2017 4:30:06 PM
Westley drives to get off the mark. Greeeeeeeeat. -_-
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:29:24 PM
that was my thinking
by Lawrence Payne9/7/2017 4:29:18 PM
If Malan doesn't come good then why not?
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:28:38 PM
play Bairstow and Foakes same side?
by Lawrence Payne9/7/2017 4:28:02 PM
And the BBC commenters want to put a bullet through Stoneman, surprise surprise...
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:27:58 PM
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:27:01 PM
@LawrencePayne Yes, spare Keeper and decent middle order bat. Let Jos play in whatever T20 comps he wants
by nickcricket9/7/2017 4:26:34 PM
STUMPS: Durham 145/2 (51 ov, lead by 156 - 2nd inns) v Kent TWM Latham 64* (150) G Clark 49* (111)
by ESPNcricinfo Live9/7/2017 4:26:33 PM
Yes, as substitute keeper and possibly middle-order batsman. They don't take Buttler. (They will though.)
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:26:30 PM
ok do England take Foakes to Australia?
by Lawrence Payne9/7/2017 4:25:49 PM
@Nick Your right, and with no red ball cricket during the Tests, there's no chance to find any sort of form and new players come in 'cold'.
by Dave Knibb9/7/2017 4:24:57 PM
and 2 1st games only in those 9 weeks didnt allow anyone to find form
by Lawrence Payne9/7/2017 4:24:35 PM
(Probably not Tresco or Trott either.)
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:24:09 PM
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:23:49 PM
The problem with playing 7 Tests in 9 weeks is that player have little chance to work on anything. An issue has been highlighted with Westley but he needs to be given time to see if he can overcome it. Otherwise the caps he had received are a wasted investment
by nickcricket9/7/2017 4:23:21 PM
It's probably easier to say who won't get back in. Lyth, Compton, Vince, maybe sadly Ballance, and probably Jennings.
by Dave Knibb9/7/2017 4:23:12 PM
The step up from county cricket to test matches just seems too big for most players, when a top overseas bowler turns up in the 4 day game look at the damage they do
by Lawrence Payne9/7/2017 4:22:03 PM
@Dez If Hameed can keep his form for the next couple of weeks then he'll be on the plane I think.
by Dave Knibb9/7/2017 4:20:19 PM
@DaveKnibb Nothing, its quite a simliar story to Westley
by nickcricket9/7/2017 4:19:58 PM
INDIVIDUAL 50: RJ Burns 52* (126) Surrey 106/3 (40.1 ov, lead by 16 - 2nd inns) v Hampshire
by ESPNcricinfo Live9/7/2017 4:18:29 PM
They should of stuck with Hameed and Jennings as I've been saying all summer. 2 series isnt always enough to get through a form dip and they proved in India they are up to the task. Stupid selectors have lost the plot.
by dez dezzy9/7/2017 4:17:47 PM
Tell that to Kieran Dave!
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2017 4:17:44 PM
Gabriel swinging the ball at 93mph, under lights, this is not easy
by Lawrence Payne9/7/2017 4:16:39 PM
Vaughan averaged 20 after 10 Tests, no ones technique is perfect
by nickcricket9/7/2017 4:16:28 PM
I know he's a Div 2 player but i'm suprised Sam Northeast hasn't had a chance, he had a bright start, then struggled but has had two great years. He's 28, knows his game, what's not to like?
How long do you give them though? We're not kicking them out after one series (usually two). Maybe Ballance gets a bit longer than most because of his extraordinary FC record. Westley averages 38. And this is the West Indies, at home.
