Jon Culley at Warwickshire v Somerset 265-4 dec
Finally, the declaration. It wasn’t a lead of 350 he was waiting for, nor Tresco’s century, but a 400-run advantage, which arrived just before Tom Abell was bowled neck and crop by Ryan Sidebottom. He had completed his second half-century of the match, too, so all boxes ticked. Trescothick was superb. It is his 65th first-class hundred, which include 14 in Tests, and his sixth on this ground. He has only two this season, which is lean by his standards. Both have been against Warwicks, which says something, I’m sure. Today’s bright spot for the beleaguered home side has been 28-year-old Sidebottom, who has run in and hit the deck hard and has a good yorker. An English-qualified who has been playing in the Birmingham League, he is on trial until the end of the season and, I would imagine, not far from earning a contract for 2018. Warwicks need a nominal 402 to win with 62 overs left today and all of tomorrow.
