George Dobell at Warwickshire (201) v Essex (11-0)
It’s not quite a record (the first-class record is eight in an innings) but the seven leg before decisions Essex won against Warwickshire tells you a fair bit about their bowling. Porter, in particular, bowls pretty relentlessly straight. He’s not quick (around 80 mph) but, on wickets offering something, he gets enough movement to prove really hard work. With Harmer varying his pace nicely and gaining a surprising amount of turn, Warwickshire’s fragile line-up could gain just one bonus point. That was largely due to Dominic Sibley, who was dropped on two, but fought valiantly. He could have carried his bat but was last man out selflessly trying to hit out with only the last man for company.
