It's a weird beast the championship. Maybe less points for a draw or more points for a win would be an idea.

Also is it just me who thinks the woman in the weather report looks like she's about to be revealed as the villain in a slasher film?
by StaggerBreaths9/26/2017 8:54:14 AM
I don't think Botham could be expected to solve everything overnight. What he has done arguably hasn't been that helpful, but he expressed the anger I think a lot of the fans feel. That's something. A mealy-mouthed ECB figurehead would have been chased out with pitchforks.
by StaggerBreaths9/26/2017 8:53:15 AM
Stoneman - 59 Burns - 50 Foakes - 45 Roy - 43 Pope - 45
while Currans, Sibley and Clarke have chipped in, and Borthwick's been a bit rubbish
by Will Colwell9/26/2017 8:49:01 AM
Also good to see that the arrival of Botham at Durham has really helped stabilize the club. Colly's going to have to play til he's 60 at this rate.

we'll find out next year Haystack
by Joe Williams9/26/2017 8:48:12 AM
Wonder what would happen if you took Sanga's runs out of the mix.
by Haystack_Jnr9/26/2017 8:47:23 AM
Surrey are also a very strong batting unit so tend to make the most of good batting surfaces, whereas their bowling can be a bit hit and miss
by Will Colwell9/26/2017 8:46:12 AM
@dezdezzy really? well there's me told!
by Joe Williams9/26/2017 8:45:17 AM
6 of Surrey's 10 draws were away from home...
by dez dezzy9/26/2017 8:44:24 AM
Livingstone always looked a bit high at three so maybe one of them will move down, with everyone dropping one and Chanderpaul not returning

Don't Lancs have a bunch of openers
by Will Colwell9/26/2017 8:36:16 AM
Notts. you are excused.
by StaggerBreaths9/26/2017 8:35:52 AM
Jennings to Lancs....well well well, interesting change in direction there
by Joe Williams9/26/2017 8:35:51 AM
I end up ranting and frothing at the mouth on this subject at least 4 times a season. Boring pitches with no chance of a result do more harm for the game. You could argue that Surrey are arguably staying up this year on the back of no result pitches gaining them enough batting bonus points and draws to put them safe. And were it not for the contrived declarations last year Middx would have drawn with Yorks and failed to win the title having not won a game at home all season (tho kudos to MH for producing a string of good result pitches this year)
GD's article yesterday was spot on, Middx complaining about the pitch is poor form, and if a points deduction does come in to it, well the ECB will have so much to answer for and the credibility of the CC will be called into serious question for me (again)

I don't like change

I have a bold new avatar for the day :)

Can't see Taunton being docked points. There's nothing wrong with the pitch. Decent turn, not very up and down, bounce isn't excessive, nothing dangerous and Somerset are on 0 warnings as far as I know
by Will Colwell9/26/2017 8:03:42 AM
I see Middlesex are squealing about the pitch at Taunton. Bit rich, after they created last years's fiasco against Yorkshire at Lord's...
Although if Taunton gets docked points after Middlesex tried to play a game at Uxbridge in September, I may lose my battle to be magnanimous
by NemoUKS9/26/2017 8:01:26 AM
Yes, but Coverton's actually decent, so is less amusing.
by StaggerBreaths9/26/2017 7:58:44 AM
Don't think Coverton was either. Good day 1 report from George Dobell at Taunton as you'd expect, covers the fairly complex pitch issues nicely. Let's hope whoever stays up stays up for reasons within the boundary (although Crossbowgate may already have put paid to that)
by NemoUKS9/26/2017 7:57:19 AM
nor was Craig Overton, who appears to at least be in contention
by Will Colwell9/26/2017 7:56:44 AM
Most amusing thing about that poll? The Bayliss-favoured Vince isn't even an option.
by StaggerBreaths9/26/2017 7:48:48 AM
bowled out for less than 250 and lose, Static
by Will Colwell9/26/2017 7:41:29 AM
I'm one of the 3% who didn't pick Jimmy.
by StaggerBreaths9/26/2017 7:38:49 AM
2% of readers didn't select Joe Root, so appear to not really be wholly familiar with cricket at all
by Will Colwell9/26/2017 7:38:01 AM
Morning. Have we all seen the BBC's public-suggested squad, and recognised how few voters actually follow the county game?
