Watching the Bangla-Aus test on a Giles Clarke baiting stream and apparently Shakib al Hasan is 30 now. I know he's been around literally forever but he still looks about 22!

TOSS: Hampshire won the toss and elected to field Hampshire v Surrey at Southampton - Sep 5-8, 2017

that time again.
by StaggerBreaths9/5/2017 9:07:42 AM
@StaggerBreaths They did that in the UAE against Pakistan, I don't remember them doing that against NZ in that 3-2 series.
by nickcricket9/5/2017 9:07:00 AM
@nickcricket - yeah i'm not for it myself. As Flintoff said on commentary, he's one of those players that whilst he is an excellent county player, he isn't necessarily international quality. Being responsible for running Brendan Taylor out isn't quite as bad as running out Root or Buttler!

UPDATE: Match start delayed (Start delayed due to rain), Yorkshire v Middlesex at Leeds
I remember the first series of England's brave new white ball era, where against NZ they rotated basically everyone. Everyone got four games or so, Root and even Morgan were rested. What happened to that? Seemed a good call.
by StaggerBreaths9/5/2017 9:03:10 AM
Also our home game against Warwickshire was heavily rain-affected, would just about sum up our season if the two games against the one team worse than us in the division were rained off.
by SDHoneymonster9/5/2017 9:02:58 AM
Is Footitt fit?
by nickcricket9/5/2017 9:02:37 AM
If England lose the third Test to the Windies Root may need to be rested for the sake of his mental well being anyway. Lock him in a panic room and under no circumstances let him see any newspapers.
Problem is you look at the ODI top 7 and how would he get in without dropping Moeen or Stokes, or the Captain!

The words 'big' & 'Samit' generally go together of course

Big uproar from some about Samit not being picked

UPDATE: Match start delayed (No play before Lunch, rain), Derbyshire v Glamorgan at Derby
by ESPNcricinfo Live9/5/2017 8:59:27 AM
I thought England would at least rest Root so they could play Bairstow at three and avoid the Roy situation
by nickcricket9/5/2017 8:57:19 AM
I know we take ODIs seriously now but does seem a bit of a missed opportunity to give Root a break before the Ashes.
by SDHoneymonster9/5/2017 8:57:04 AM
@StaggerBreaths - i think/hope that is only due to injury
by dez dezzy9/5/2017 8:56:52 AM
No Wood. :(
by StaggerBreaths9/5/2017 8:55:26 AM
The white ball squads announced yesterday are interesting - they might have experimented a bit more if WI hadn't called up the likes of Gayle & Samuels

UPDATE: Match start delayed (Start delayed due to rain), Lancashire v Essex at Manchester
by ESPNcricinfo Live9/5/2017 8:54:33 AM
It's irrelevant anyway, they'll have signed Billings by the middle of next season.
by StaggerBreaths9/5/2017 8:54:12 AM
I've got no idea how good a bat Davies was Will, presumed as a keeper (who's not Barrow/Bates) he'd bat up the order.
by StaggerBreaths9/5/2017 8:53:50 AM
Sorry to go on about how bad he was, but I don't see how you could bat Ryan Davies above Harmer, never mind Tim 'batting all-rounder' Bresnan
by Will Colwell9/5/2017 8:53:06 AM
Billings played a decent bit this year in ODI Cricket, played in India once Hales was injured, played in the West Indies, played against Ireland. He might not like the role he gets but he has a decent number of caps recently
by nickcricket9/5/2017 8:52:58 AM
If Yorkshire get any play this match they are finally going to get the opening Partnership of endless nicks behind
@dezdezzy England have Rashided Billings a little bit IMO. Dragged him around everywhere and never played him.
by SDHoneymonster9/5/2017 8:50:33 AM
Re: Davies going back to Kent, Billings has been left out of the WI white ball series so Kent might be seeing more of him next year, so Davies could still find himself playing 2nds cricket there
by dez dezzy9/5/2017 8:49:31 AM
Bartlett should have played earlier on in the year as a reward for his record breaking innings in India with the U19's
by dez dezzy9/5/2017 8:48:06 AM
Gilo can't sign everyone...can he?
by nickcricket9/5/2017 8:48:03 AM
If relegation allowed the likes of Bartlett and Byrom to get settled in the team for the long term I don't think I'd look back on it with too much sadness. The issue is they're all likely to get nicked by Warwickshire if we do go down...
by SDHoneymonster9/5/2017 8:46:21 AM
@nickcricket d'oh
by Will Colwell9/5/2017 8:45:35 AM
@WillColwell Also insert bantz about how you said the wrong Moores
by nickcricket9/5/2017 8:44:58 AM
more Somerset debutants as well today by the looks of things, England U19 bat George Bartlett likely to come in for Tim Rouse, possibly a return for Pete Trego at 7 as well
by Will Colwell9/5/2017 8:44:56 AM
@WillColwell Who knows with Notts, he is certainly in position. Surprised they are not trying to get him into the 4 day side as a batsmen
