First wicket bingo: Plunkett.

She's been my favourite female player for a while. Can't remember precisely why. Presume I saw her doing one of her earlier innings and it caught the imagination.
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 10:00:20 AM
@MrOzhotham. They won't, the mens boundary rope only appears to be moving inwards. I blame the size of the bats myself...
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:59:02 AM
Yes, I agree SB. See Sciver is averaging nearly 50 in ODIs now.
by mdpayne877/5/2017 9:58:25 AM
Perhaps they can move the boundary ropes back out soon.
by MrOzhotham .7/5/2017 9:58:10 AM
Strike rates are also rising as players are stronger and fitter, what is considered a good score in women's cricket is moving from up.
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:56:01 AM
I think we'll see that changing though MD, as I suppose it has with the men's game of late. e.g. Sciver, N.
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 9:55:44 AM
The list of players with fewer England caps than Luke Wright is quite something: bit.ly
by Will7/5/2017 9:55:44 AM
I thought we were back on about Luke Wright there...
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 9:54:35 AM
Economy rates of bowlers in women's cricket definitely lower. Both the openers currently bowling against England have economy rates of 3.5!
by mdpayne877/5/2017 9:54:35 AM
She* has also batted oops
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:54:11 AM
Raj has something 50+ doesn't she? And all the Aussies seem to average ridiculously high, which I guess reflects their standing in the game.
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 9:53:54 AM
Indian Captains seem to average about the same
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:53:40 AM
I have noticed this the female averages aren't always what you expect. A lot of them are lower than you expect but there are equally players with outrageous averages
by Mark Ofield7/5/2017 9:52:32 AM
@StaggerBreaths He was also batted in every slot from 1-7 apart from Number 5
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:52:31 AM
Admittedly know little about Women's cricket, does anyone know how bowling and batting averages compare to the men's game in general? i.e. are batting averages typically lower? bowling averages better etc? or is it pretty similar?
by Joe Williams7/5/2017 9:52:28 AM
That explains that one, cheers Nick.
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 9:52:11 AM
@StaggerBreaths Slow start to her career, made her debut in 2013 but didn't start scoring good runs until 2016
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:51:40 AM
Also, on the topic of female players with weirdly low averages, how does L. Winfield average in the 20s? I have a vague recollection of her being quite good.
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 9:50:30 AM
@StaggerBreaths Buttler has added another team he would rather play for than Lancs so it was a success all round
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:49:28 AM
@StaggerBreaths Yes, he was. Luxury player they called him because he didn't bowl or bat much. He got lot of caps at the wrong time of his career, before he realised he was a top order aggressor. He was a much better player by say 2014 but by then England had made their mind up. He didn't get a bit of a chance got a 99 didn't he in a T20?
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:48:55 AM
But to go back to the real topic of the day, I did find it ironic that we had the piece about the cricket fan from Japan bemoaning the popularity of baseball compared to the non-event of cricket, then almost immediately we have Hales and Buttler wearing stupid masks and brandishing large wooden phalluses.
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 9:48:45 AM
She did do alright a couple of matches ago. But that 42* in a huge total was her highest ever ODI score in England. An average of 17 for a specialist bat after 50 matches seems a bit off.
by Matt Warwick7/5/2017 9:47:26 AM
@MrOzhotham Yorkshire haven't said, They made it sound like wouldn't bowl again. Guess he should try and bat even if he can't do much, would be difficult to tell him from the top order in that respect
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:46:39 AM
Luke Wright was in the 2010 T20 World Cup-winning team wasn't he?
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 9:45:48 AM
I thought she batted a couple of matches ago and did alright? That said I'm a bit spotty with my knowledge of women's cricket so I could be wrong. But Shrubsole at 9 (and Brunt above her) does not seem like a strong tail to me.
by StaggerBreaths7/5/2017 9:45:02 AM
Luke Wright's one of those players who I always think "did he really get a fair chance for England?" then check and see he got 101 caps across both white ball formats
by Will7/5/2017 9:45:01 AM
by Matt Warwick7/5/2017 9:44:23 AM
@MattWarwick The female Luke Wright circa 2009, although with off spin rather than medium pace changes
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:43:46 AM
Cricinfo bio says she's a superb power hitter, so must be a why she's there. Late order hitter who can bowl a few offies if required. Still, record is poor.
@MattWarwick I know she bats down the order so might not get a lot of time to complete an innings but a top ODI score of 44 from 51 ODIs is awful and she hasn't bowled in the WC yet after three matches
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:38:56 AM
I first heard of Dani Wyatt when Swann tweeted about his fellow off spinner. But she's a batsman with a terrible record, so its a tad confusing how she's always playing.
by Matt Warwick7/5/2017 9:36:35 AM
@MattWarwick Hoping someone popped over from Scarborough and stole their heavy roller
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:36:30 AM
Will Sideottom Bat or Bowl again in this match?
by MrOzhotham .7/5/2017 9:36:11 AM
I don't suppose anyone took a shovel to the Oval overnight?
by Matt Warwick7/5/2017 9:35:47 AM
@StaggerBreaths Yep, I do struggle a little bit with what Danni Wyatt's role in the side is, I know he she got some runs in the last game but he isn't what you would call a regular contributor
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:35:35 AM
Who cares about Cricket, I thought we were all baseball fans now? Halesy made Jos look a bit average didn't he. Foul!
by nickcricket7/5/2017 9:33:53 AM
Morning all. Today's thought for the morning: England women have a really long tail.
