SB why have you posted a picture of what looks to be the Surrey bowling coach?
by Will Colwell9/20/2017 9:28:55 AM
I see where you're coming from Geoff. My reasons for including him in my theoretical squad are as follows: a) he's pretty good at keeping it tight in any conditions; b) he can probably still winkle a couple of with the new ball; c) he is, or at least used to be, our leading practitioner of reverse swing; d) odds of Broad still being disappointing are pretty high, in which case Jimmy's the closest thing to a like-for-like.

Bowling attack of Garton, Archer, Joverton and Meaker. Might go at 6 an over but could be fun...
by NemoUKS9/20/2017 9:27:51 AM
@StaggerBreaths I wouldn't even take Jimmy to Aus. Save him for next summer.
honestly, i'm about 10 miles away and there has genuinely been no rain for about 36 hours in the Derbyshire area, what are they doing at ches-vegas
by Joe Williams9/20/2017 9:23:56 AM
Stoneman Northeast Moeen
I really didn't have much of a problem with the choices! Only problem is that, as mentioned earlier, Malan at 5 seems the 'fair' choice. He's done just enough to earn a recall... I guess.
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 9:23:50 AM
I went Stoneman/Northeast/Ballance but frankly there are 6-7 options all of which don't inspire much confidence.
by NemoUKS9/20/2017 9:23:32 AM
@NemoUKS I always use live feeds URL. Seems the only way.
by Geoff Eisenhauer9/20/2017 9:22:51 AM
to be fair to the england selectors....when I did that ashes team selector thing I had nothing @ 2, 3 and 5 as obvious choices! v v tough one.....
by Joe Williams9/20/2017 9:22:28 AM
Morning all. A glimmer of hope for Somerset would be nice but I fear the worst. Perhaps Essex batsmen are over their hangovers. They'd better be!
by Geoff Eisenhauer9/20/2017 9:21:37 AM
Same Nemo, its like they don't want us to find it :) and morning all

After Rikki Clarke's 7-fer yesterday, today must be nicely poised for a Trego career best right? 70mph terrors
by NemoUKS9/20/2017 9:19:39 AM
Morning all. Homepage link still seems to be to yesterday's blog, had to URL hack to get here
by NemoUKS9/20/2017 9:15:42 AM
No mentions of Luke wells either. *triggered*
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 9:11:02 AM
no Adam Hose jokes, please
by Will Colwell9/20/2017 9:07:50 AM
With my opponent having Darren Stevens as captain, and me starting Sean Dickson over centurion Luke Wells, I'm very happy for someone to spray a hose on this Chesterfield outfield

UPDATE: Match start delayed (Start delayed due to a wet outfield), Derbyshire v Kent at Chesterfield

I'm still not sure why Archer's absent, let alone TRJ!
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:50:33 AM
Talking of TRJ, do we know if he will take the field today after going off yesterday? He's been a rather handy stand-in as fantasy captain in Archers absence!
by dez dezzy9/20/2017 8:47:42 AM
Just watched the Stokes vs. Samuels video for the first time... as a gamer myself, wonderfully daft.
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:47:13 AM
I'd pick him on the hardest bounciest pitches and wrap him in cotton wool elsewhere. No more than three Tests. TRJ gets good bounce, despite his lack of pace, and is very line-and-length. I'd rather have him than Jimmy in most cases down under.
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:43:28 AM
Forgot about Wood... Add him to the squad and probably rotate him withe Woakes throughout the series.
by dez dezzy9/20/2017 8:40:01 AM
Just looking at Lancs. stats., and am amused that the highest batting average this season belongs to... Kerrigan.
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:34:02 AM
Okay. I just think it's a risk to play Jimmy and Broad down under with the Kookaburra, where there's no swing after eight overs. Giving Malan another shot is probably the 'fair' pick but not one I'm overly fond of.
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:31:45 AM
I didn't really want to put Stoneman at 3, but I'm not convinced with Westley, and who else is there realistically?
by dez dezzy9/20/2017 8:30:53 AM
This is what I went with yesterday, for those who missed it: www.bbc.co.uk With Burns Ballance Foakes Jimmy Wood and Crane to complete my 17-man squad. I don't reckon breaking Hameed on the wheel of the Ashes when his form is so spotty is fair.
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:29:59 AM
Both really... There's a few others I'd 'like' to pick (e.g. Porter) but i think you'd be taking a big risk putting someone on an Ashes tour on the back of 1 breakthrough season.
by dez dezzy9/20/2017 8:29:56 AM
A preview of what bids fair to be a pivotal day at Wantage Road.
by Paul Edwards edited by David Hopps9/20/2017 8:25:10 AM
Is that your view, Dez, or what you think the selectors will pick?
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:24:48 AM
Jennings, Foakes, TRJ and Crane to complete the squad

Concerned Somerset are well behind and that Yorkshire and Middlesex appear to be on top. Admirable to be giving players like Rouse and Bartlett runs in the side, but the decision to play the 2nd half of the season with no overseas and Johann Myburgh sitting around twiddling his thumbs might have cost Somerset dear
by Will Colwell9/20/2017 8:23:28 AM
From Paul Edwards: '[Read] probably needs no reminder that Northamptonshire's fine players often punch above their weight, a phenomenal effort in one or two cases.' Class.
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:19:46 AM
Durham to be bowled out by lunchtime and asked to follow-on.
by StaggerBreaths9/20/2017 8:11:43 AM
Morning all. Do we think Roy's out of the ODI side for the foreseeable future then? Seems a shame, he's obviously molto talented, but possibly better for T20s than the middle format.
