Jon Culley at Warwicks 186 v Hampshire
This has been a lean season for Ian Bell, the first since 2002 in which he has not made first-class hundred (although he did make 99 against Surrey in April), yet the last innings of his season is one that had made things tough for Hampshire in their quest to avoid relegation. Bell’s unbeaten 77, compiled mainly in the company of tailenders Olly Hannon-Dalby and Ryan Sidebottom, contained nine fours and two sixes – both off Gareth Berg – and some glimpses of vintage Bell in the quality of his drives, cuts and pulls. The last two wickets added 72 to the Warwickshire total, Bell scoring 50 of them, to set Hampshire 259 to win in a match in which they cannot risk defeat. They have 54 overs left today (weather permitting) and all of tomorrow in which to knock off the runs or survive.
