Paul Edwards at Worcestershire v Northamptonshire 151-6
Well, that took a long time. Worcestershire have secured promotion to Division One. Matters were settled not by the wicket Joe Leach took a few minutes ago - Ryan Pringle, caught behind, since you ask - but when Northants were bowled out for 202 at Wantage Road. There was a ripple of applause from spectators tuned in to radios and it spread warmly around the ground. Amid all the celebrations, there is a realisation that next season will be the first time in which Worcestershire are in a higher division than Warwickshire.
George Dobell at Somerset (187-4) v Middlesex
A sharp slip catch has ended Tom Abell’s innings. Abell had attempted several reverse-sweeps this morning, so Voges was ready for if and, despite Abell connecting nicely, Voges took the chance smartly. Meanwhile Craig Overton has described his Ashes call-up as “a dream come true.” He says that Marcus Trescothick has told him not to listen a word the Australians say to him – and they’ll say a few – and expressed his sympathy for his brother, Jamie. “James Whitaker rang me last night just as I pulled in to the drive at home,” he said. “As soon as I’d hung up I called my dad to let him know and we had a really nice conversation. I spoke to Jamie last night too and he was really happy for me. It’s been a tough year for him but hopefully he’ll come back strongly and I’m sure he’ll get his chance soon.”
