Lancashire 115-6 (Hameed 30* 146b) v Essex
Essex took a further three wickets in the afternoon session and continue to control their Specsavers County Championship clash with title rivals Lancashire, despite Haseeb Hameed’s dogged resistance for the hosts.
Opener Hameed has 30 from 146 balls at tea, having had a spell mid-afternoon where he scored one run in 54 deliveries – a run ended with a three backward of point to great cheers from the Old Trafford crowd.
But Essex did the damage at the other end. Paul Walter picked up the key scalp of Shivnarine Chanderpaul for 23 in the second over after lunch before Jos Buttler became Jamie Porter’s third victim.
Ryan McLaren looked like providing a partner for Hameed, making 22 from 39 balls, but he was bowled by Simon Harmer to leave Lancashire at 115-6 at tea.
