@Nick, that was the basis of the discussion. the team that won and played the best cricket most resembled a sunday league team. The really fat, sorry, let's me frank, players played really well. Do cricketers need to be super fit, like football players, or as the vast majority of the time they are just standing around can they be bigger? Unfortunately my two friends concluded that cricket is a mere step up from darts...

dave - You couldn't have a team of those lad would give away too many runs in the field, I do wonder if in the future a lot of batsmen in T20 will more resemble baseball hitters in that being able to top edge a ball for 6 will be more important that being able to take a quick single.
