Maybe Notts will give more chance to their homegrown players and stop this whole splash the cash thing?

They did that this season and last in fairness, with Libby, Ball, Wood and Hutton all playing a fair bit.

All over for the Hants game (realistically). What a tense couple of weeks to come, at both ends! Every team with something to play for except Notts!

Depends Peter Moores have talked about looking to bring though players a bit more which would be easier in the second tier, although they can't just promote people if they are not ready. Giles seems to have played a blinder at Lancs where they got promoted with kolpaks and overseas then brought in the younger guys and it worked
by nickcricket9/9/2016 3:04:00 PM
Plus Tom Moores has been playing in the last few matches

Obviously they are still a test match ground so must have money if they wanted to sign someone, They don't seem to be getting great value out of BTaylor but he might be a world beater in div 2

@MarkBoyle 105k between the Surrey players? That'll buy you a round in trendy South London
by George Potter9/9/2016 3:06:47 PM
Giles has also recently released a lot of younger players, couple of them have signed for Leics. I don't think Notts can straightaway be back in Div 1, they will have intense competiton with Kent and Sussex for the promotion spot. Btw, is it one promotion spot or two, the next season?

George Potter - You wait for when they get Straussy 1.8 million and realise they can't buy a small flat for that
by nickcricket9/9/2016 3:08:09 PM
Back to two isn't it because div 1 will have been reduced to 8 teams which is the target 14 matches, 7 home 7 away. Don't ask me to say what happens in div 2...

Jolly good show all, roll on the Old Trafford M5.
by StaggerBreaths9/9/2016 3:12:50 PM
@george - nothing trendy about that part of South London. Hopefully Surrey will exhibit their usual collective loss of form when north of Watford next week. Durham should treat them to staying with the ghosts in Lumley Castle, just to add to home turf advantage

Hameed is a confident lad, comparing yourself to Joe Root...

It seems that all teams will not play each other in Div 2 next time. Well, one of the promotion hopefuls will be facing a tougher team then. A little unfair, eh?
by Aneesh Kumar9/9/2016 3:15:22 PM
Wonder if Surrey will have Jason Roy or will be be 'resting' I mean we are in a post FC cricket selection world
by nickcricket9/9/2016 3:15:32 PM
Adam Wheater is back to Essex it seems. Oh, how would they have wished to keep hold of Ben Foakes
by Aneesh Kumar9/9/2016 3:17:37 PM
Aneesh Kumar - Yes its rubbish, They will all play 14 matches 7 home 7 away but they won't all play each other. I wonder if the ECB want a couple of counties to go bust then it evens out again. Its not an easy situation we do play too much domestic cricket, so the drop to 14 matches helps. Personally I would add to that and have three groups in the RLODC so that they play less and use Strausses MVP game to make up the games for those likely to play ODI in the off season
