Jon Culley at Warwickshire 20-2 v Hampshire 531
After hours in which nothing happened bar the steady accumulation of runs on a flat wicket, it has all been happening either side of tea. Adam Wheater played splendidly for a maiden double hundred, but after Sean Ervine drove straight to extra cover off Jeetan Patel for 75, ending a stand of 144 for the sixth Hampshire wicket, the next four fell in hardly any time. In fact, the last five Hampshire wickets went for nine runs in 20 balls, two to Patel and three to the leggie, Josh Poysden, who finished with figures of 4-85, a career-best. Wheater was left high and dry.
The match had until then seemed to be heading for a similar scenario to the match against Sussex here last year, in the same part of the square - towards the Rea Bank side - where 601-6 played 612-6. The one may follow a different course now, with Warwickshire already down Andrew Umeed and Ian Bell to Gareth Andrew and Gareth Berg as Hampshire's makeshift attack makes early inroads.
