@dave Or perhaps Somerset should be run like a cricket team!

Gubbins' breakout season continues. More if this sort of thing.

Morning all. Worrying news re: Carberry, hope he's alright
by NemoUKS7/11/2016 10:34:16 AM
@StaggerBreaths Not worried about mockers?
by Geoff Eisenhauer7/11/2016 10:34:30 AM
dave - I think Yorkshire is very much run like a business now, but are having to live with mistakes of the past. If Grounds are going to have decent capacities then they are going to need games that can sell out.
by nickcricket7/11/2016 10:35:09 AM
a fair comment, Geoff, and not one i necessarily disagree with. I hope once the ground development has been complete some funds will find their way back into the playing squad. As i said earlier, many fans do feel the playing 11 is neglected. But when we have to compete on an uneven playing field with Counties that have an unfair advantage, something has to give. Also, has Maynard used his playing budget wisely? Cooper, Allenby, Leask, Van Der Merwe, the aged bowler on loan from Hants for the short games.
by dave7/11/2016 10:36:55 AM
It's the sign of a top player that they can resist mockers, Geoff.
by StaggerBreaths7/11/2016 10:36:56 AM
@StaggerBreaths Or maybe Somerset just can't bowl. I'm very depressed about recent performance.
by Geoff Eisenhauer7/11/2016 10:37:46 AM
dave - on the bidding system there are no easy answer, clearly it has helped smaller ground bring international cricket to more areas of the country but it has created an arms race that has forced increasing levels of debt while the ECB sit back with a bank account brimming with cash
by nickcricket7/11/2016 10:37:58 AM
You've had two cheap wickets this morning, what more do you want? (Apart from another seven I guess.)

INDIVIDUAL 100: AJA Wheater 100* (147) Hampshire 319/4 (102 ov, won the toss) v Warwickshire

Our bowling is relatively reasonable considering they're all young lads. The doom and gloom I see from Somerset supporters online is remarkable.
by NemoUKS7/11/2016 10:39:53 AM
@StaggerBreaths How about Maynard out, taking Allenby with him, a bottomless bottle of Pinot and players who display possession of multiple brain cells. Too much to hope for?
by Geoff Eisenhauer7/11/2016 10:41:21 AM
Two hundreds in the same innings for Hampshire is madness.
by Matt Warwick7/11/2016 10:41:28 AM
The Pinot might be a bit much.
by StaggerBreaths7/11/2016 10:43:04 AM
@NemoUKS Not really havinga dig at teh bowlers but soon they'll have to stop being promising and start delivering on the promises. White ball cricket team selection is what really gets my goat.
by Geoff Eisenhauer7/11/2016 10:43:07 AM
@StaggerBreaths I'm just off to investigate stock levels now. Will report back in a hic ... sorry tic!
by Geoff Eisenhauer7/11/2016 10:44:24 AM
We're not great at white ball cricket at the moment, I'll give you that
by NemoUKS7/11/2016 10:44:29 AM
What must really hurt at Somerset is what they could really use is Jos Buttler
by nickcricket7/11/2016 10:44:47 AM
Surrey - Choose to bat score at 1.34 runs per over.
by nickcricket7/11/2016 10:47:45 AM
We got horribly unlucky there, made the right call in Kieswetter as Buttler was always likely to be 90% of the time away with England and then he gets a freak career ending injury. Nothing management could do about that really, and put Kies back into our one day sides and we'd be looking much stronger. Bringing in Davies as a first team keeper was a strange call though, he doesn't look ready although there's certainly talent there.
