David Hopps at Middlesex 117-5 v Somerset
Jim Allenby gets the sort of criticism in Somerset that makes the stick for Angela Leadsom pale by comparison (*up-to-date political imagery on this blog - she is announcing her withdrawal from the Tory leadership as we speak) but he has just struck twice in his first eight balls of the day.
He began by taking a prize Middlesex wicket, that of Nick Gubbins for 67, Marcus Trescothick this time up to the task at second slip. Gubbins was driving a wide one, driving slightly on the up, slifhtly risky perhaps on a greentop but in essence he just messed up the shot.
John Simpson has followed for a duck, caught at the wicket. This was a better ball, rising a little from a decent length and line against a batsman new to the crease. All he needed was some nice green seamers.
Allenby has gained notoriety in the south-west by calling a spectator "a knob" on Twitter apparently. Could be a fun day for those of us who secretly like our cricket sprinkled with trivia.
