Kent 424-4 v Sussex
Kent captain Sam Northeast continued his amazing run of form by scoring a century on day two of Kent’s Specsavers County Championship clash with Sussex in Tunbridge Wells
With the sun on his back at The Nevill Ground the right-handed 26-year-old notched his fourth championship century of the summer and the 15th of his career as Kent went in at lunch on 424 for four after 124 overs with Northeast unbeaten on 127 and Alex Blake still there on 57 having enjoyed a hundred partnership.
Northeast’s latest century came off 162 balls and with eight fours and follows recent scores of 189 (v Essex), 191 (v Derbys) and 166* (v Essex). He now averages 100 in the championship.
Blake then moved to his 50 with a six over long-on against the leg-spin of Will Beer. It was the left-hander’s second maximum to go with three fours.
Kent’s sole casualty of the session was Darren Stevens for a typically belligerent 63. Having just slog swept one from Danny Briggs to the ropes, Stevens aimed to repeat the dose only to sky a catch to Will Beer at mid-wicket.
