After Glamorgan had been dismissed for 518 in their first innings, Derbyshire made a rapid start to their innings, before losing four wickets for just 19 runs, and at lunch were struggling at 71 for 4. Glamorgan added 37 for the loss of their two final wickets - Craig Meschede and Owen Morgan put on 60 for the ninth wicket before Morgan was leg before to Will Davis for 40, and when the 20yr old seamer bowled Michael Hogan, he ended with career best figures of 7 for 146.
Billy Godleman and Hamish Rutherford struck nine fours in the first five overs- seven from some wayward bowling from before lunch from Graham Wagg who was replaced after conceding 29 from his three overs. The change proved successful as Rutherford chased a wide delivery from Meschede giving Mark Wallace a regulation catch .Shortly before lunch off spinner Andrew Salter gained immediate success when he trapped Godleman leg before with his second ball, and Derbyshire lost their third wicket when Meschede bowled Chesney Hughes for 8.In the final over before the interval, Wayne Madsen chipped Meschede to square leg to give the seamer his third wicket and leave Derbyshire in disarray.
