Vithushan Ehantharajah at Surrey 55-2 v Middlesex 395
After what had been 20-overs of stubborn resistance from Arun Harinath and Rory Burns – "blunting the ball" in the eyes of some, turgid to others – they found themselves back in the hutch in the space of four balls. Burns, looking to get a move on, tried to work Ollie Rayner to midwicket, offering a leading edge that Dawid Malan held easily at mid off. That brought Kumar Sangakkara to the crease and, first ball, a huge appeal went up against him as Rayner beat him on the inside edge. It looked very adjacent. The umpire said no and, a single later, the same question was asked of Harinath. Rayner had the answer he wanted. Sangakkara's got going though: bisecting two short cover fielders for four. He tried to hit Rayner out of the attack earlier but misread where the ball pitch and ended up having to turn the ball rancidly ino the legside.
