Paul Edwards at Yorkshire 308 v Lancashire 68-3
Very much Yorkshire's morning here and a testament to the quality of their fine seam attack. Excellent bowling from Bresnan, Brooks, Patterson and Plunkett kept the pressure on Lancashire's batsmen and it received proper reward as Smith drove Patterson to point, Hameed was lured forward by Bresnan and Procter was pinned by Brooks. Alviro Petersen and Steven Croft have seen their side through to lunch on a mediocre 68-3 but Yorkshire's 308 is looking rather formidable at the moment. We may have had a Shantryless morning but it has not lacked for quality or, even, in its way, excitement.

Tim Wigmore at Derbyshire 12-0 v Sussex
He didn’t add a run to his overnight 104 this morning, but there has just been a significant moment in the career of Luke Wells: he has been awarded his Sussex county cap. He received a warm appreciation from the Hove crowd, always delighting in the successes of locally reared cricketers.
Just to give a hint of the challenge facing Derbyshire: their last two first-class innings - the first innings here and the second against Kent at Derby last week - yielded 244 runs, 20 wickets and only lasted a combined 72.1 overs. They will have to bat at least 74 overs today to take the game into the fourth day, but at least they take lunch without having given a chance. Why Sussex felt the need to take their lead up to 297, especially with a bleak forecast for day four, was not entirely clear.
