Warwickshire v Durham
Andy Umeed marked his championship debut with his maiden first-class half-century as Warwickshire advanced to 166 for one against Durham at tea on the opening day of their Specsavers County Championship match at Edgbaston.
When rain arrived to send the players in for an early tea, Umeed, playing only his second first-class match, was on 63 (145 balls, six fours).
Durham took up the option to bowl first, despite the absence of the injured Chris Rushworth, and toiled throughout the first session as Warwickshire 105 without loss at lunch. Umeed (dropped on 19 by Paul Collingwood at first slip off Graham Onions) and Varun Chopra then extended their alliance to 120, the Bears' first century opening stand since April 2014, before Chopra (71, 102 balls, nine fours) was trapped lbw by Jimmy Weighell.
Durham enjoyed little luck, with an impressive spell from young seamer Bryden Carse going unrewarded, as Ian Bell settled in alongside Umeed to put on an unbroken 46 in 11 overs before rain arrived.
