Will Macpherson at Essex 145-2 v Sussex
So this game woke from its slumber immediately after lunch. Jordan bowled the first over, in which Nick Browne moved to 50 (from 99 balls) as his 11th four was edged between second slip and gully. By the end of the over, Browne had a 12th four, this time edged just out of first slip's reach; a taller man than Harry Finch might have reached it.
Anyway, it was the Champo debutant Archer who bowled the second over of the session and, in his newfound spirit of discomfort, Browne just nibbled outside off and feathered through to Ben Brown behind the sticks. Next ball, a bit of a snorter tied Westley up and the ball spooned up to Finch, by now at third slip. Not actually sure he hit it, and I don't think Westley thinks he did either. Nice ball that definitely hit the helmet, and perhaps a glove.
Since, Jaik Mickleburgh, playing his 100th first-class game, has continued on his quiet way and passed 50 in 125 balls. He also got there by edging through the slips. Lawrence is with him now, and he's played one very sexy front-foot, flat bat pull.
