Good to see Vaughan speaking sense on the topic of city T20. His description of those who don't want it is absolutely correct. Joe T Williams below is dead right about the revenue sources. It'll bring new money and a different fan base into cricket in the UK, and that's all good.

What are the chances of attracting Virat, AB, Gayle etc with international commitments etc. Also even these superhumans may need a rest
by Mark Boyle9/15/2016 11:59:36 AM
Allen Stanford brought new money. New money isn't inherently a good thing unless it's long term and sustainable...

Unfortunately PT I still haven't gown feathers, or massive jaws, or hugely in size! So I think MV might have been mistaken. On a more serious note, how would you personally go about keeping both T20 competitions, and the CC, going without worsening either in the schedule space?
by StaggerBreaths9/15/2016 12:01:35 PM
Won't get Virat because the BCCI won't release players for other counties T20 comps, ABV maybe I guess it will depend on how much it crosses over with Cricket South Africa are playing. There are a lot of options for players looking to add to their career earnings now. A T20 only player will have to build rest into his program in the way KP does by not playing the comp here and the CPL

*grown. No feather-based gown either though.
by StaggerBreaths9/15/2016 12:02:28 PM
The other question that nobody has answered is whether we will have to endure the dreaded KP again in this new competition?
by petepineapple819/15/2016 12:02:44 PM
@JoeTWilliams The core cricket fans you mention, basically the people who follow the County Championship and so on - they're a massive minority compared to those who would go and watch quality, entertaining T20 cricket. Just look at the football. Yes there's a diehard core of fans who support one particular team regardless. But most people who'll go and watch matches are far more fickle, for want of a better word.

The more cricket he plays the less he's stinking up the Twitter round-ups, Pete, so I'm all for it.

Must be time for a dinosaur XI... Reece Triceratopley to start
by NemoUKS9/15/2016 12:03:47 PM
I do worry a bit more cricket in that these T20 comps will all merge into one long game where 6s are cheap because lets face it in LO cricket fans love big runs. Big runs = quality in a lot of eyes

@CraigBeevers true, but I also think that for a lot of 'part time' cricket fans there is still definitely a tribal element to it, Yorks or Lancs supporters going to a roses game become more involved as they see it as their county against the old enemy, something I think could be lost a little with the city based franchises

There's actually a shantungosaurus.

@SB - you'd look good in feathers. Probably a boa would do the trick. I'd be very surprised if the "promise" to keep the existing 18 team T20 competition survives. There'll be a scheduling squeeze for the first season, then it'll be cut back to become a feeder competition. I don't see any threat to the CC

In that case PT I have very little problem with it. I can see why others would, I don't. Don't reckon you can use 'dinosaurs' as a sweeping statement though, there have been several good arguments the other way. That's the problem of Twitter's character limit, and especially that being MV's main method of communication these days.
