How It Stands
Middlesex win title if they beat Yorkshire Yorkshire win title if they beat Middlesex
Somerset win title if it is a draw at Lord's A Hampshire win would mean the loser of Warwickshire v Lancashire would be relegated. If Hampshire win, Lancs could survive with a draw, Warks would have to win
Welcome back to the County Cricket blog as we reach the climax of the Championship season. Some of you have pointed out that we have been so excited we haven't known what day of the week it is, but we are out in force once more. George Dobell is at Lord's for the meeting of the top two, Middlesex v Yorkshire, and Paul Edwards is at Taunton to see if Somerset, in third, can surprise both by claiming their first title. But there is relegation interest, too: Will Macpherson watches Hampshire seek the win they need against Durham, which if achieved would put pressure on Warwickshire and Lancashire, who meet at Edgbaston under the watchful eye of Jon Culley. Plus the ECB county network and all adorned by your news and views.

I'm not sure how long I'll be able to cope with the pressure, but I'm here for now anyway.

So, let's start the day off with a controversy bomb: with regards to the longer form of the game (and you could make the converse argument in shorter formats), my view is that Virat Kohli does not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Root-Smith-Williamson trio. Gentlemen, start your Internet engines!
by StaggerBreaths9/22/2016 8:33:06 AM
Longer form, Amla, Root, Smith and Williamson are on another level to everyone else playing the game - a step up from the Cook, Warner, ABdV, Taylor, Younis and Kohli tier.
Short form I'd rather have Kohli than anyone else

Also Rahane is comfortably India's best test batsman

I probably agree with you there Will (apart from Taylor, would probably put Misbah or someone in front of him). And now Vijay goes. Turning into an interesting match this.

"Rohit Sharma walks out at No. 6. *gulps imagining the explosion of comms feedback*" Srihari, your time to shine!

Morning all, rain here in not so sunny Bournemouth

Morning Lawrence, bright down south.
by StaggerBreaths9/22/2016 8:41:45 AM
well...that took longer than planned! using yesterday's URL as a guide which was incorrectly called Tuesday.....I was trying to get into Weds the 22nd. Anyway. Time for one of Middx or Yorks to shine here. 250 looks a long long way a way at the moment for Yorks, Middx really need to be bowling us out for a small lead or similar score to try force a result, ball well and truly in Somerset's court at the moment
by Joe T Williams9/22/2016 8:42:11 AM
And surely its Root Smith Williamson and Bresnan now :)

I haven;t known what day it is all week. I blame the ECB.
How you feeling SB, this session of play is the one I think?

Just love the way it shows the time the blog is launched in EDT
by David Hopps9/22/2016 8:45:18 AM
@DavidHopps Tim Bresnan scoring crucial 70s from number 5, 19 year old spinners taking 5 fers, Steve Finn has a beard, who needs to know what day of the week it is?
by Will Colwell9/22/2016 8:45:21 AM
I feel like I'll be leaving this page soon after the start of play Lawrence! I felt that if Yorks. were seven down at close (esp. if one of those seven wuz Bressy Lad) it would have been Middlesex on top, as it is it's Somerset on top. Yorkshire nowhere near the 350 they need.
