CricinfoKent beneficiary Darren Stevens hit an unbeaten century in what could transpire to be his final game for the county as the hosts posted 389 for 7 on the second day

Agreed Aneesh: Hoppsy's fielding of bad balls/eggs is superlative.

I'm going to say it. I think it would be a very poor commentary on the County Championship if Yorkshire win it with a misfiring top order and humdrum spinners. The fact that they are still in the mix shouldn't blind the incoming manager to how much work there is to do to address the problems.

Yorkshire's seamers deserve it I think Dom

If Kent don't want Darren Stevens, Surrey should be all over that, he'd be a great t20 player for us
Would love Darren Stevens at Somerset except we currently can't move for middle order bats who send down some useful medium-fast

agreed Dominic, said it a few weeks ago, if we win the title it'll be a bit of a shambles really given how poor we've been with the bat up top, also would reflect at how poor a lot of pitches and the weather has been this season as a few teams should've killed us off but were denied due to draw pitches or bad weather.

Dominic - it depends what you mean by deserve. The last two years Yorkshire have pretty much blown the competition away. This year they have been much poorer. But I think you have to credit the never say die attitude from the team and the character shown to scrap their way to where they are. For all the faults of the batting if Yorkshire get to 350 and win the title they would have the most batting points of any team in the division.

Stevens would be surely welcome at Lancs, given our fragile batting and equally inconsistent bowling.

Think the Yorkshire faithful would have fewer problems with Gale not getting a hand on the trophy this time... Anyway I agree with Dominic. I'm sure it's bias, but of the contenders, Middlesex seem to have the most balanced team - attacking bats, defensive bats, an all-rounder of sorts, fast bowling, faster bowling (Fuller), and Rayner. Would be credit to them if they overcame the soupy mushes of pitches and they still win.
But like I say, I've got bias coming out of me ears.

Strange that we could end up with the most batting points, our middle and lower order deserve medals for nearly dragging us to that!

The fact is there hasn't been a stand out team this season. In a year like this the winner is going to need a bit of luck along the way.

Strauss announces +age group Eng team with the following players rested from the rest of their CC game R Sidebottom, T Breanan, S Patterson
Joe - exactly you can make an argument that those players deserve a Championship for showing such character. That 50 partnership for the last wicket in the low scoring game against Warwickshire is a classic example.
