Jon Culley at Nottinghamshire 258-5 v Hampshire
There I was, just about to write how Notts had made the game safe and could even fashion an unlikely win and suddenly they lose two wickets in two balls. First Steven Mullaney and then Samit Patel, the latter strangled down the leg side first ball. Chris Read is in now but he's the last of the proper batsmen in this Notts line-up and there are still a minimum of 37 overs to come. Mullaney had batted superbly for 137, hitting 19 fours and launching two sixes and certainly there were periods when he and Brendan Taylor were scoring quickly enough in their 162-run partnership to raise the possibility that Notts could actually emerge with a victory from what looked like a nailed-on backs-to-the-wall guts-it-out last day. But then Brad Wheal made one jump off a length and Mullaney could only loop it up towards mid-off, whence Gareth Berg rushed forward to take a diving catch. Patel was a tad unlucky but as Lewis McManus flung himself to his left to grab the ball the finger went up. 245-3 to 245-5 in the blink of an eye.
