Jon Culley at Nottinghamshire 133-3 v Hampshire
One session down, two to go for Nottinghamshire, who are desperate to avoid a defeat that would see them cast adrift at the foot of Division One. The table is looking none too clever as it is and will be worse still if Surrey can complete a win over Warwickshire at Edgbaston. If they can keep Hampshire with them, though, it will feel better psychologically. By recent standards, only one wicket lost in the session is something of a triumph, although it might have been worse. After Michael Lumb drove loosely at a ball from Brad Wheal to be caught behind, Brendan Taylor gave a half-chance to short-leg off the same bowler on three and Steven Mullaney, who has played very well for his unbeaten 74, had an escape on 59 off Liam Dawson when an edge sent slip Will Smith the wrong way. The former Nottinghamshire batsman flung out his left arm but with his weight carrying him in the other direction he could get only half a hand on the chance.
