George Dobell at Somerset (128 and 157-2) v Pakistan (359 and 236-4).
It’s tea at Taunton and Marcus Trescothick needs five for the 61st first-class century of his career and the 47th for Somerset. That would bring him level with Sir Viv Richards on the all-time Somerset list of centuries makers, with only Harold Gimblett (who made 49 first-class centuries for Somerset) above them.
It has been a pleasing afternoon for Tim Rouse, too. After sustaining that blow on the head, he showed character and skill in making 41 – his highest first-class score – playing some attractive stokes off the seamers and the spinner. One hook off Sohail raced to the boundary, while there were also some nice sweeps and drives before he was beaten by a quicker one from Yasir. He looks one worth perseverance. The pair added 98.
The pitch looks very flat and pretty slow now. This is a good work out for the Pakistan attack.
